What is in the template

  • Cast against days: Number, cast and character down the side; date, weekday and shoot day across the top, for up to 16 days on the PDF and 31 in the workbook.
  • Codes: SW start work, W work, WF work finish, SWF start, work, finish, H hold, T travel and R rehearsal.
  • Totals per actor: Travel, work, hold and rehearsal days, start and finish dates, and the total days.
  • Cast working: A count at the foot of each day of how many cast members work that day.

How to use it

  1. Set the dates. Write the dates across the top, with the weekday and shoot-day number. In the workbook, type the earliest date and the rest follow.
  2. List the cast. Use the cast numbers from the stripboard and call sheet.
  3. Code each day. SW on an actor's opening work day, WF on the closing one, W in between, H for days held, T for travel and R for rehearsal; SWF for a single day.
  4. Read the totals. Check work and hold days against each deal, and the cast working each day against the call sheet.

Questions

Is the day out of days template free?

Yes. Every file downloads directly from this page, with no account and no email address.

What do SW, WF and SWF mean?

SW is start work, the actor's opening day; WF is work finish, the closing day; SWF is an actor who starts and finishes on the same day.

Why do hold days matter?

A held actor is paid but not used. The hold count shows where moving a scene could save days.

Does the Excel version work in Google Sheets?

Yes. The counts, start and finish dates and the cast-working row keep working in Google Sheets.

Does it work in Apple Numbers?

Yes. Download the Numbers file; the totals and drop-down lists keep working on Mac, iPad and iPhone.
