What is in the template

  • Strip sheet: One strip per scene in shooting order: code, day, scene, interior or exterior, set and synopsis, day or night, pages, cast, location and estimated time.
  • Board layout: A header panel with the cast list and 22 vertical strips to print on card and cut apart, with day or night, interior or exterior, scene, pages, set and a cast row for each cast number.
  • Colour code: White for interior day, yellow for exterior day, blue for interior night, green for exterior night, with banners for notes and moves, and black day breaks.
  • Excel stripboard: Choose Scene, Day break or Banner for each row and the colour follows. A day break shows that day's pages, and a Days tab totals each shoot day.

How to use it

  1. Break down the script. Give each scene a strip: number, interior or exterior, set, time of day, pages in eighths and the cast numbers from your cast list.
  2. Colour the strips. Use the code: interior day white, exterior day yellow, interior night blue, exterior night green. Dusk and evening shoot as night; dawn and morning as day.
  3. Order the shoot. Group strips by location and cast, then put a black day break at the end of each shoot day with its day number, date and pages.
  4. Add banners. Put company moves, special units and other notes on banner strips between scenes.

Questions

Is the stripboard template free?

Yes. Every file downloads straight from this page with no account and no email address.

What do the stripboard colours mean?

White is an interior day scene, yellow an exterior day, blue an interior night and green an exterior night. Interior-exterior scenes take the exterior colour. Day breaks are black and banners are orange.

What is a one-line schedule?

The stripboard written as a list: one line per scene, in shooting order, with a day break after each shoot day. The strip sheet in this template is a one-liner you can fill in.

Does the Excel stripboard work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Open the .xlsx from Google Drive. The row colours, the pages per day and the Days tab keep working.

Does it work in Apple Numbers?

Yes. Download the Numbers file. The drop-down lists, the pages per day and the Days tab work. Numbers can't colour a row from what is typed in another column, so colour each strip by hand from the Colour code tab; Excel and Google Sheets colour the rows by themselves.

Can Cinewright make the stripboard for me?

Cinewright Budgeting and Scheduling for Mac builds a colour-coded stripboard from the script, with day breaks and banners, and shows what a move does to the budget and the shoot days. It is not on sale yet; it launches through Kickstarter. Windows and Android versions are in development.
