What is in the template
- Per scene and setup: Shots numbered within each scene; a second camera on the same pass shares the setup and takes no extra time.
- Camera details: Shot size from EWS to aerial, lens, movement, angle and which camera, with the standard abbreviations printed at the foot.
- Time: Estimated minutes per setup and a total for the day, so the plan can be checked against the hours.
- Done column: Tick each shot as it is in the can; the workbook shows the shots done and the minutes left.
How to use it
- List the scenes. Write each scene's number and heading in shooting order.
- Break each scene into shots. Give each shot a number, its size, lens, movement and angle, and the camera.
- Group by setup. Shots that share a camera position and lighting share a setup number. Estimate the minutes for each setup once.
- Check the day. Compare the total minutes with the shoot day's hours, then tick shots off as they are done.
Questions
Is the shot list template free?
Yes. Every file downloads directly from this page, with no account and no email address.
What is the difference between a shot and a setup?
A shot is one framing in the edit. A setup is one camera position and lighting state; several shots, or two cameras on one pass, can share it. Setups drive the time a day takes.
Which shot sizes does it use?
EWS, WS, FS, MWS, MS, MCU, CU, ECU, 2-SHOT, OTS, POV, INSERT and AERIAL, the same list the workbook offers in its drop-down.
Does the Excel version work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Open the .xlsx from Google Drive; the totals and drop-down lists keep working.
Does it work in Apple Numbers?
Yes. Download the Numbers file; the totals and drop-down lists keep working on Mac, iPad and iPhone.
